Among many of the conversations Wayne and I needed to have over our weekend was settling upon a title for the third installment of The Berinfell Prophecies.

The discussion was held over a swim in the hotel pool. We’d both toyed with the idea of a few titles, the most prominent of which became a sort of code-name used in The Underground called Tearing the Veil. But in the end one stood out among all others.

The Tide of Unmaking (#ToU).

Book III is unique in that it has a very powerful “ticking time bomb” element that propels the story forward at break-neck speed. This, as one might guess, has taken center stage, and therefore merits a title in its honor.

One of the more exciting things we discussed was the fact that since we’re self-publishing this new book, our readers will be getting it in May (at least that’s the plan). If it was being published with our previous publisher (or any other legacy publisher), no one would see it for another 16 to 18 months – yet more evidence of why self-publishing is not only beneficial to authors but to their all-important fans.

So, what do you think the Tide of Unmaking is? Let the conjecture begin! ch:

Woot! Soooooo excited!

The title is awesome, and so is the picture.

Billy Jepma · 24 Mar ’12 at 4:15 pm

So amazing! Its mysterious, compelling and makes me want to throw money at the computer screen! Alas, that doesn’t work well. Can’t wait to read it!
P.S. 16-18 months!? Seriously? That’s ridiculous! So glad you guys are self-publishing! 🙂

    Christopher Hopper · 24 Mar ’12 at 6:06 pm

Yes, seriously. Kinda’ depressing isn’t it…

Throwing money at the screen? lol Nice image.

Ciara · 24 Mar ’12 at 5:11 pm

Wow, awesome! I’m SOOOO excited for it to come out. And the title is really cool!

    Christopher Hopper · 24 Mar ’12 at 6:08 pm

Thanks Ciara! Glad you like it and do appreciate your enthusiasm!

Sarah · 24 Mar ’12 at 6:23 pm

Tide of the Unmaking . . . that’s gotta be one of the coolest titles EVER. And it’s coming out in May? HUZZAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think . . . I’m not sure what I think, but I’m sure it’s going to be incredible.

Glade · 25 Mar ’12 at 11:50 am

I’m truly excited to see what you and Sir Batson have planned! I feel as though the Berinfell Prophecies have become legends in their own time for Christian Fantasy. Most of all, I’m curious how you’re going to fill the hole left by Jett’s death (if that’s your plan). I pray that God will guide your pencils. Wait, you’re probably using keyboards, huh? 😉

By the way, are you going to reveal the one secret that’s been driving me crazy ever since reading Venom and Song? The part where Tommy and the other Lords retrieve the clay pot and give it to Grimwarden, who unobtrusively takes something out of it and hides it? Because that small point has been a real mystery to me!

    Christopher Hopper · 26 Mar ’12 at 11:01 am

Glade: as Sir Wayne and I type away across from each other at the table here, we’re marveling at your perceptiveness. Yes, the “Seven” are simply not the same without “a Seventh,” so that’s definitely an issue.

Jake · 25 Mar ’12 at 4:02 pm

Love the title, and especially the idea behind it. However, the title strikes me as really similar to another Christian fantasy I’ve read recently, “The Song of Unmaking”.

Looking forward to book three on all accounts, though. 😀 Gonna be awesome.

    Christopher Hopper · 26 Mar ’12 at 11:02 am

Thanks Jake. Yes, we were aware of the title, but felt strongly this was the best fit for the content in B3.

    Jake · 28 Mar ’12 at 12:53 pm

All right, then! Onward you go. Can’t wait to read it!

Allan Miller · 27 Mar ’12 at 8:35 pm

“The Tide of Unmaking”, huh?… I believe that rolled through my house the other day. My kids seem to be masters at calling forth its power (and we’re not just talking beds here).
Seriously, though, very… cool… title. You guys just have a knack for penning those don’t ya? I too would throw money at my computer screen if it worked.
We Miller Bros will be pulling for you and Wayne through these next weeks – God speed brothers! Write! Write! Write!

    Christopher Hopper · 27 Mar ’12 at 10:36 pm

Ha ha – it seems my kids have mastered that same tide. Hey…are they talking to each other via Skype? (Goes and checks call history…)

Thanks for your kind words, Allan. As always, we (I) appreciate your support. Hugely.

Zach Hardin · 28 Mar ’12 at 5:45 pm

How many books will there be in the Berifell Prophecies? I’ve just finished the first, that book was AMAZING!!! Can’t wait to read book 2.

    Christopher Hopper · 28 Mar ’12 at 6:33 pm

We will be writing only 3. However, we have some amazing plans for the series as a whole that we’ll be releasing when the 3rd book comes out in May. So stay tuned.

And thanks for the comment about Book 1. We really appreciate that, Zach.

dracowriter99 · 31 Mar ’12 at 10:20 pm

I loved the other two books. I only had one problem with the second, Jett’s death. I cannot wait for the third. Endure and Victory.

    dracowriter99 · 31 Mar ’12 at 10:33 pm

    I meant Endurance and Victory.

    Christopher Hopper · 1 Apr ’12 at 10:36 pm

Glad you liked ’em. And yeah – I actually remember crying when we wrote Jett’s death.

Monica swatzell · 12 Apr ’12 at 8:37 pm

First of all I am your biggest fan on this series. I introduced the first book to a friend of mine at church and he loved it. We’ve been passing back and forth information we could find on when the 3rd book was coming out. We’ve just about pulled all our hair out in excitement (exaggeration). I don’t know if you’ve thought anything about this but I would much like to see the series made into movies. That may be too far ahead in the future to think about though. The only thing I love more than a good book series is seeing a good book series turn into a good movie series. My God bless you and WTB as you write this story.
P.S. Didn’t like how you made Jett die. Only complaint. I pretty much burst into tears when it happened. He was one of my favorite lords.

Charlie · 16 Jun ’12 at 1:27 pm

Me and my friend are to read the third book!

    Aaron · 16 Jun ’12 at 1:29 pm

I am dying to read this book.

Charlie · 16 Jun ’12 at 1:31 pm

Me and my friend Aaron are really excited, we have been waiting for ever in eager anticipation.

Lady Maggie · 30 Jun ’12 at 10:52 pm

So excited for it!
You only cried when you guys wrote the part about Jett’s death? I sobbed! 😛 Think I’m gonna start crying now…
Anyway, just wanted to say that you guys are awesome!! May you type as fast as Autumn runs!!
Endurance and Victory!!

LunaNightwing · 9 Aug ’12 at 6:09 pm

    Christopher Hopper · 12 Aug ’12 at 4:42 pm

    Christopher Hopper · 5 Sep ’12 at 9:49 pm

Don’t say that around here too loudly…may have some disgruntled Gnomes fart in your general direction!

Grace · 5 Nov ’12 at 11:14 pm

May sounds like too far away to read the rest of the story. Wish I had started the series April of next year.

    Christopher Hopper · 6 Nov ’12 at 2:15 pm

Grace, you might be pleased to learn that book 3 is already out (since September), as this post is from March of this year. Thanks!

Brady Mandrell · 21 Nov ’12 at 5:28 pm

I can’t believe Jett dies!! Honestly i think that he should have healed himself or something like that. Can’t wait to read book 3 OR 4!!! I would buy them before they came out in stores for $10 extra!!!

    Christopher Hopper · 4 Dec ’12 at 7:09 am

Hi Brady, hope you’ve gotten ahold of Book 3 by now. (Chronologically, you posted on an old post, as Book 3 was published in September). Let me know how you like it!
